Notes on the release 4.0 of AscToHTM
====================================
Thank you for downloading the AscToHTM conversion
software.

Locating AscToHTM on the Web
----------------------------
The AscToHTM home page is currently

      http://www.jafsoft.com/asctohtm/

The on-line documentation for the current version
can be found at

      http://www.jafsoft.com/doco/docindex.html

but a copy of the documentation for this version
is included in this .zip file

Downloads of shareware can be found on the home
page. Should the AscToHTM pages ever move, you
can re-locate them by going to

      http://www.altavista.com/

and entering

      +"John A Fotheringham" +AscToHTM

Installing the software
-----------------------
The shareware version of this software comes with
Install/Uninstall support. Should this fail, visit the
download page (URL above) for details on performing
manual installations.

Running the software
--------------------
See the included documentation for more details

Shareware version
-----------------
The shareware version is limited in a number of ways

    - Each page of HTML generated has a "nag" line
inserted at the top and bottom of each page.
      Feel free to delete this.

    - After 30 days and 5 days usage it will stop
working. That is, after 30 days you will get
5 more days usage (not calendar days).

    - Certain features are not available in the
shareware version. These should be described in
the documentation, and the software will tell you
when you have attempted to use a denied feature.

    - only the first 1000 lines of your document will be
converted correctly. After that AscToHTM will
insert a warning in your HTML and mildly corrupt
all subsequent lines. This will allow you to
gain some impression of how the registered
version would perform, although beyond 1000 lines
AscToHTM is more prone to errors.

If AscToHTM detects that your conversion has been
"crippled" in some way (e.g. it's more that 1000 lines
long), a warning is issued at the end.

Registering the software
------------------------
This software is offered as shareware (cost at time of
writing is $40). Try it before you buy it. Then buy
it! To register your copy of the software, visit

      http://www.jafsoft.com/asctohtm/register_online.html

for details.

Registration involves supplying an email address at
which to receive update notifications. We intend
offering free upgrades for as long as possible to
registered users. To date no-one who has registered
the software has been required to pay for an upgrade.

Although we can't guarantee the policy will continue,
to date free upgrades have been in place for
over 3 years and for the last 10 separate upgrades.

Reflecting this the price is slowly creeping up, so it
pays to register early.

I've made this software free to FAQ maintainers, and (I
believe) dirt cheap to everyone else. If you're a FAQ
maintainer, or wish to enter some special pleading for
discounts, please email me with details (see contact
address below).

Currently AscToHTM is priced at $40.

Other Software
--------------
Recently I've developed AscToTab to convert text tables
to HTML (and RTF) tables. Currently this software is
offered as freeware, and this technology has now been
integrated into AscToHTM. The home page for AscToTab
can be found at

	http://www.jafsoft.com/asctotab/

A text-to-RTF converter has been released, and has
a page at

	http://www.jafsoft.com/asctortf/

Other products will be listed at

	http://www.jafsoft.com/products/

Contacts
--------
Any problems or feedback should be mailed to
info@jafsoft.com. I'm particularly open to bug reports
and suggested improvements.

Once again, thanks for looking
